DEATH WITHOUT MERCY
Campaign

Watch, Remember, Act

We have created this campaign alongside the release of Death Without Mercy - a film that transcends entertainment. A film that has the power to inspire a collective journey of learning, remembrance and action. Here, we will share our stories with you and show you how, together, we can help honour those lost and keep their visions alive.

In the early hours of 6 February 2023, a Mw 7.8 earthquake hit a large area of Turkey and Syria. Its destructiveness was exacerbated by the instability that had torn the region apart. Waad Al-Kateab’s film is a powerful record of the disaster, drawing images from TV news reports, social media, CCTV and drone footage, alongside archive material of the region. The shock of the earthquake soon gives way to a damning record of human failure, with Al-Kateab focusing on two Syrian families over the course of ten days, sensitively recording their desperate efforts to find their loved ones.Highlighting official incompetence and a paltry level of humanitarian aid, Death Without Mercy is, above all else, a moving testament to human dignity.

HELP US TRANSFORM TRIBUTES INTO VITAL COMMUNITY SPACES

Far beyond the aftershock, these life-changing events still impact individuals and families today. We - Fuad, Safa and Fadi - are creating two special spaces that aim to honour the dreams of our loved lost ones and allow their visions to live on. These places will serve as a beacon of hope and vitality for the communities that will benefit from them: by bringing people together, they will nurture collective strength, renewal and resilience, creating a lasting positive impact that honours our loved ones’ legacies.

Football pitch

Qutaiba (Fuad and Safa’s young son) loved football. It was his favourite sport and he always dreamt of having a place near home where he could play with his friends. A new football pitch will be the perfect tribute to Qutaiba and it will provide a safe and welcoming environment where young people can come together through their love for sport.

Community cinema

Yaman (Fadi’s older brother) was a talented filmmaker with a passion for storytelling. This was something that they bonded over, always celebrating each other's work. A new cinema, in his honour, will become a vibrant community hub in Idlib - a place where everyone will be welcome to enjoy the arts and enrich the community’s cultural fabric.
